Rebecca Bullard is an Associate Professor of English Literature at the University of Reading. As the OCLW Tony Gray Visiting Scholar for 2017-18, she will be working on “Obituaries and New Media, 1700-1780.” This project explores the emergence of the obituary as a popular genre in the eighteenth century and addresses the impact of gender, socio-economic and class status, geographical region and new media, such as periodicals and newspapers, on the structure and style of these texts. The research carried out during her time at OCLW will form part of Rebecca’s monograph, The Oxford History of Life-Writing, volume 3: The Eighteenth Century.
